Mark Soper has taught computer troubleshooting and other technical subjects to
thousands of students.  He has also written and co-authored several technical books.

The book has more than 50 pages of flow charts to help you resolve typical computer
problems quickly.  A group of tables with specific trouble symptoms forms another section
of twenty pages.  Then, the main part of the book has specific chapters that go into detail
about solving many problems such as troubleshooting a Windows installation, Internet
problems, storage devices, power supplies, printers, displays, input devices, networks,
memory problems, processors, and motherboards.

A flow chart example involves starting your computer, but the monitor is blank.  Where do
you go next?  Be sure the monitor is plugged in and turned on.  Check to see that the
monitor to CPU cable is connected and the pins are not bent.  If all of these things are
okay, look to see if the monitor power light is on.  If not, replace the power cable and try
again.  If the monitor power light is on, but the screen is blank, is the LED steady or is it
blinking or is it a different color?  If anything is abnormal, the computer may not be
sending data to the monitor.  This is just part of the monitor troubleshooting flow chart.

185 Wireless Secrets --  by Jack McCullough

Jack McCullough has written an outstanding book explaining a multitude of things
concerning wireless devices and Internet communication with them.  He talks about
unwiring your home or office so that you can be connected without a tangle of wires.  He
discusses mobile devices such as PDAs and how to stay connected with them.  He
includes the handling of security issues, too, as well as backing up your files.

Jack also has excellent information in the back of the book about wireless manufacturers,
Internet resources on networking, and mobile wireless applications.

Other topics of discussion are:  the cost of going wireless -- it is not as much as you
think, how communication works with the Internet, the safety of mobile phones, locating
access points, hardware and software that you need, dealing with Internet providers,
expanding the range of your WLAN, instant messaging, and games.

This book is invaluable if you want to understand the wireless world.  You can go directly
