Stock Market Commentary
Even if a person only owns mutual funds in a 401k account, it is a good
idea to pay attention to the stock market. You can lose half of your
retirement in a bad downturn. So, everyone needs to know when to be
invested in the market and when to sit safely on the sidelines.
We are in a market situation where only a handful of stocks will make double digit
returns. Some of these could be buy-and-hold stocks while others display a
volatile behavior that might work for small gains several times per year. I
currently own several of the stocks below. Of course, there is risk involved with
buying the displayed stocks, but I believe they will outperform the S & P.
Yahoo Finance provides the stock price quotes, the charts, and the news for all
the stocks listed below or elsewhere on this website. The stock quotes are very
recent, and you can get the latest price immediately from Yahoo by simply
refreshing this web page. If you click on a stock's ticker symbol, a yearly chart of
the stock will pop up along with recent news links related to that stock or sector.
In this type of market environment, only certain stocks and sectors will be safe for
investment. Oil companies will be acceptable for years to come because people
will be far too slow in adopting alternative energy. Also, new people buying cars
in India and China will constantly cause a drain on available oil supplies.
Uranium will be a hot industry as well because China and the US are planning to
build more nuclear plants. This will provide a big boost for uranium companies
since we will be having more demand than supply.
